Pace Planner
Pick a target finish time and a pacing style, and get a church-by-church schedule: when to reach each parish, and the pace per mile and per kilometre for every leg. The course terrain (the slow climb out of Rushen, the fast drop into Peel) is built into both styles - they differ only in how hard you go out early:
- Even / smart - learned from the most evenly-paced finishers: start a touch conservatively and finish strong. The safer way to race a target.
- Field-typical - the average of the fastest ~100 finishers: banks time early and fades late. Closer to what most people actually do.

The Arrive-by column is the precise target (it sums to your goal exactly). Effort is how each leg compares with your average pace - positive means harder than average (the climbs, the long drags, late-race fatigue), negative means easier. This Even / smart plan is built from the 25 most evenly-paced finishers, so it starts you a little more conservatively than the field and asks for a strong finish. The model is most accurate for goals around 14:30-17:00; for a much slower goal it's a sensible guide but real mid-pack pacing fades a little more.
